We shamelessly admit that every time we walk into a store, we head straight for the gardening section and look for new reasons to add a new tool or more seeds to our already-ridiculous gardening arsenal. It's an addiction, really, but if you ask us, it's a healthy one (it literally results in healthy, wholesome food - who could complain about that! 😏).

And since Mother's Day is coming up, we thought we'd share some of what we've had our eyes on to help you find the perfect gifts for Mother's Day too!

Finding a gift for Noelia is sometimes a challenge because she's not a fan of typical gifts like jewelry. She's the kind who prefers gifts of utility and if it helps her with any one of her projects, even better. That normally means something for the kitchen/cooking, something for gardening, or some tools from the home improvement store.

Here are our top picks. Let us know which ones you can't live without!

Indoor Planters and Shelves

1. Jute Hanging Basket

Hanging wall baskets like these feel like a welcome sight right near the front door, hallways, or in the bathroom. Any excuse to add more plants to the house is okay with us!

2. 4" Mini Geometric Terrarium Set

We've recently been obsessed with geometric planters and succulents. Don't judge us, but some of our succulents are fake, some are real, and either way, we love how they add life to a space!

3. 10" Speckled White Hanging Planters

We can't wait to add hanging planters to the "Florida room"! (Which is basically a sunroom with tons of windows and natural light and we're obsessed with it!) This one is a favorite!

4. Wood Plant Stand

We're in the middle of starting up a little herb garden that we'll keep year round, and we decided we want to keep it indoors so it'll live on a little plant stand like this one. Super cute, right?

For the Kitchen

5. Vegetable Spiralizer

We love making raw zoodle salads or substituting pastas for spiralized zucchini/squash/sweet potato!

6. Mandolin

Noelia just recently made her own homemade potato chips and a mandolin makes slicing them so much easier (and faster!). Plus, we get to get creative with the spices we add for new flavors! We also love making zucchini lasagna and a mandolin helps us slice the zucchini long ways for the lasagna noodles (which we're going to try making with eggplant soon!).

7. Copper Watering Can

Aside from this watering can being cute (which makes it part of the decor), we actually really like the long neck on this can. Sometimes we water plants from the bottom, like our money tree, by adding water into the saucer that the pot sits on. If you're using a cup to water, the cup makes it hard to get the water close enough to pour into the saucer. A gooseneck like the one on this watering can allows you to water the saucer without spilling water all over.

8. Salad Spinner

Before gardening, we'd get those already 3x washed salads that were ready to eat. When we started gardening, we quickly realized lettuce need good washing and a good spinner if the leaves were going to last any longer than a day in the fridge. We soak the leaves in salt and vinegar water (to help kill any lingering bugs), agitate the water by hand to shake off dirt, and sometimes rub each leaf to make sure we didn't miss any dirt. Then we spin, put the lettuce in fresh water, and spin two more times.

To help make lettuce last longer, layer pieces of paper towel in between the lettuce to absorb extra moisture (that's a tip we learned from a caterer who preps food in advance and wants to keep it fresh and crispy).

9. Avocado Tree Growing Kit

If you're like Noelia, you've been dying to start an avocado tree from seed. Noelia has been trying to start avocados from seed for as long as Cindi can remember (which is at least for 30 years now). She's not once been successful and frankly, Cindi admires how Noelia has never given up after failing so many times! Now that Noelia has the growing environment for an avocado tree (grows best in warmer areas like Florida), we're even more hopeful this might be the year Noelia's avocado seed dreams come true. Maybe she just needed the growing kit (someone should've told her that years ago!)😂 We'll see!

10. Teapot with Removable Infuser

Are you tea lovers like us? We live off a giant stash of herbal tea, one of our kitchen cabinets is stocked full! A few years ago on a trip to Boston, we decided to try loose tea and we've been in love ever since. We also love the idea of making multiple cups with a big teapot like this one!

11. French Press

If Keurig isn't cutting it for your oversized coffee mug and the coffee pot isn't your favorite anymore, the french press might be your thing. Cindi has an oversized coffee mug that doesn't quite fit two k-cups, and since she only has one cup of coffee per day, a full coffee pot doesn't make sense for her. So with a French Press, she makes the perfect sized cup full of flavor every single day. We also love that it's glass so we can see exactly how much it's getting filled.

We've heard some people complain of the glass french press breaking, but that can happen if you use a metal utensil in it (which, the instructions that come with the french press specifically recommend against because the metal can break the glass). We've only ever used a plastic measuring spoon and silicone spatula to mix the coffee and have never had a problem with ours!

Garden Tools

12. Garden Kneeler and Seat

Trust us, your knees will thank you. Flip in one way for a kneeler if your garden is in ground, or flip it over to make it a seat. Either way, this is one investment we're so thankful we made (well, our knees are certainly thankful!). Especially when you're weeding, adding more fertilizer, or harvesting from plant to plant.

13. Thorn Resistant Gardening Gloves with Long Arm Protection

Up north in our Pennsylvania garden, we're bombarded with stinging nettles that we've never been able to get rid of, no matter how many times we try to rip the plants and their roots out.

Stinging nettles have hairs on them that sting your skin and leave red, itchy, burning bumps wherever they've touched. Cindi had no idea what they were when she first encountered them, all she knew was they were a weed she tried ripping out and within a few minutes, her hands were on fire. All it takes is brushing up against them to feel the burn.

We also have wild blackberries with thorny vines right near our garden. So long, thick gloves are a necessity for avoiding burning stings and scratching thorns! (We hope you don't have the same awful experience we did!)

14, Movable Rolling Organizer Cart

It says makeup cart, but it's actually a pretty handy way to store tools and seeds and such.

15. Weeper Soaker Hose

Watering the gardening can get time consuming, yes? We know. A few years ago we tested out weeping hoses (which is a porous hose, so as water flows through it water drips from the hose to gently water the plants) and fell in love. Set it up early while the plants are young and all you have to do is turn on the hose for a few minutes, then come back and turn the hose off.

We prefer a weeping hose to sprinklers because its best to water plants closer to the ground instead of watering the leaves, which can cause mildew (disease on the plants) if it stays wet, not to mention washing off the organic pesticides put in place to keep away bugs.

For more garden tools and favorites, we put together a page for you of all our Garden Favs (planting bags, tool sets, organic insecticides, and more). We hope you find the perfect gift for your mom for Mother's Day! Please let us know in the comments below what you decided to get and how mom likes it!
